Leipzig unleashes June concert festival

The Gewandhaus Orchestra is rolling out a summer festival from June 7.

It’s mostly chamber music – a Beethoven’s quintet, works by Clara Schumann and the world premiere of a 9th string quartet by Lera Auerbach. But Andris Nelsons will wind up the festival with two short concerts with the Gewandhaus orchestra in chamber size.

‘Even if we cannot get together as usual,’ says Nelsons, ‘I am convinced that the intimate and reflective mood of chamber music will offer a wonderful return to live performances.’
