Death of top Canadian jazzman, 62

The death has been reported of Hugh Fraser, pianist, composer, bandleader and drummer, a Vancouver-based giant of the Canadian jazz scene. Cause of death is unknown.

His son, Jimi James, survives him in the band.

    And trombonist?

    I don’t know the jazz scene at all, but 62 is far too young. RIP.

      Trombonist avant tout, probably. But Fraser was a notorious multi-tasker. Good to see his passing mentioned here. He was one of these figures who makes so much happen that a lot of other musicians owe a lot of their work to him. Unflagging positive attitude, a distinctive compositional voice. He’d had cancer for the last few years.
