We’ve been informed of the death of Marion Zarzeczna, concert pianst and cornerstone of the Curtis Institute since 1962.

Marion, raised in New Jersey, graduated from Curtis in 1954 and appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the US and Europe, before adapting to a teaching career, both at Curtis and at Westminster Choir College.

  • Robert Fitzpatrick says:

Marion played the Schumann Concerto with the Lansdowne Symphony, Henri Elkan conductor, in the early 1960s when I was a 16yo clarinetist in that ensemble.

Her sensitive musicianship and her singing tone quality were a perfect match for this challenging work.

Marion Z was unfailingly kind to everyone especially her many supplementary piano students at Curtis, including me.

Thank you Ms Z for your contributions to our art.
