The Scotsman has an obituary for Neil Butterworth, Head of Music at Edinburgh’s Napier University and conductor of Glasgow Orchestral Society. He was also music critic of the Times Educational Supplement and Chairman of the Incorporated Society of Musicians Edinburgh.

He was 85.

A well-liked man with a legacy of grateful students.

Anna Butterworth is his widow, not his daughter!

  • Michael Aldren says:

Amazing how he played alongside Dennis Brain in the early 60s when Brain died in 1957!

Was he really a ‘Scottish’ maker of music when he was born in Streatham?
