Anna Steiger plays Nellie Melba on BBC
mainThe soprano Anna Steiger is about to recreate the first worldwide radio broadcast on its centenary.
Dame Nellie Melba used Guglielmo Marconi’s device from a disused packing shed in Chelmsford, Essex, on 15 June 1920.
BBC Essex broadcast a Marconi Special on Monday from 18:00 to 22:00 BST, including a live link-up with Chelmsford Civic Theatre where Anna Steiger recreated the historic performance at 19:10 BST
