Shahrdad Rohani has announced his resignation as conductor of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra on his Instagram feed.

He had been in the job four years. ‘ I hereby express my gratitude over having been able to serve the art and music of the country,’ he said.

The Rudaki Foundation, which funds the orchestra, said that Rohani is suffering from heart disease and is receiving treatment abroad.

No wonder. It must be very stressful to work in Iran as a conductor, with all that kafir music that people can hear uncontrolled.

    • violin accordion says:

First of all you make a fool of yourself by using the word kafir. Iranians speak Farsi, not Arabic.
And you are a blatant racist well-known for your pompous pedantic rants rants

      • John Borstlap says:

That’s what I regularly say here but no reaction! Of course we know how free the Iranian people are, and that their enlightened leaders have no concept for unbelievers like the Arabs. And such references to something like stress in the country, how more racist can you get? The neighbour of my own cousin is married to an Iranian, he had to flee for burping in the mosque and really, apart from his brown face, he’s entirely acceptable.

Why persist in spouting your ugly hatred and self loathing here. This is about music, not race or religion. It’s gratuitous and uncalled for . You need bitchstlapping

  • Ava says:

We Iranian are proud of having the intelligent and spiritual composer who has served his country by leading the national orchestra in Iran.
God bless him and we pray for his health
