The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra gave a concert yesterday on the swan island of Zagreb zoo. The musicians are distanced from the audience but not from each other.

We might give a tolerant smile if it wasn’t all so bloody tragic.

Bloody tragic? Bloody stupid, more like.

    • John Rook says:

‘Stupid’ in the sense that there’s any separation between orchestra and audience at all. Good on the ZPO for at least cutting away the first layer of BS.

Well, one has to try something. Kudos to them for giving it a shot.

A “tolerant smile” might be appropriate during normal times when this would look more like a kitschy attempt at off-season fundraising.

As to the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra’s choice to play in an open air location, a) it has performed regularly in Zagreb’s parks in the past. Additionally, the orchestra celebrates this year its 150th anniversary, and they’re obviously eager to start some of their planned celebratory program.

.Zagreb Reader — It’s good to hear encouraging news from someone on the spot.

Will Ivo Pogorelic be playing, and dos he still play there? And his half-brother Lovro Pogorelic?I heard three recitals here and in San Francisco, and one Croatian Independence Day concert in Chicgo with Chopin’s F-minor concerto. An unusual and sometime extraordinarily fine pianist with ideas and the problems that go with them. I can read the notes for myself, and have followed his career since his elimination at the 1980 Chopin competition. He sometimes plays music by his consanguinist Kelemen.
