Decca have landed an unreleased Beethoven concerto and they are rushing it out tonight.

Here’s a clip.

  • The View from America says:

Based on the audio snippet, it sounds like a worthwhile recording — whether its release was rushed or not.

    • Dominic Fyfe says:

Not rushed at all. We recorded this in May last year and the release now was intended to coincide with what would have been their next concerts together this month. Let’s hope life and good health give them many more opportunities.

    “unreleased Beethoven concerto”

Ohhhh, a major find indeed, the 6th piano concerto by Beethoven.

  • Grumpy says:

Doesn’t beat my record collection and fine collection of hoarded toilet paper.

And how can I watch this video if people on the video don’t maintain social distance? I need to get a vaccine before touching the mouse of the computer to watch this.

    • Petros Linardos says:

If you listen to that snippet or better, a great recording of the entire Beethoven 2nd piano concerto, you may feel better and overcome your fears. Take our word for it.

  • David says:

I love Martha Argerich, but I’ve lost count of the number of recordings of Beethoven 2 she’s made….

    • Petros Linardos says:

Ditto for Schumann, Prokofiev 3, Ravel…

Sixteen years ago I went to Tanglewood to hear her play Prokofiev 3. Not my favorite concerto, and one I had heard her play before. Before the concert I was rolling my eyes, thinking “There you go again with one of the few concertos she plays in public over and over (a few years earlier I had heard her play the Schumann live…).” When she started playing, I was captivated and forgot all my frustrations.

    • Quinten says:

      It’s her fifth official recording.
      1980 London Sinfonietta
      1985 Philharmonia & Sinopoli
      2000 Mahler Chamber & Abbado
      2009 Lugano Festival

  • Ed says:

    I´m waiting for the Emperor.

  • fierywoman says:

    Pul–eeeze, Martita, the 4th?
Pretty, pretty please, with sugar on it?

  • Fan says:

I have a question: has anyone heard of any recording of Argerich playing Beethoven piano sonatas? I have been looking for such recordings for a long time as I heard long long time ago on radio (playing records not live performance), and that was the first time I learned her name: stupendous playing but I can never found such CDs.

  • Jan Kaznowski says:

There’s a YT film of MA+SO doing the Choral Fantasy

  • Hypocrite says:

Time for Ozawa to retire. He clearly is no longer an effective or engaging conductor.

    • Brian viner says:

He looks ill. I suppose the music keeps him going

      • Amos says:

He has been ill for ~ 15 years. He was supposed to make an appearance at Tanglewood but had to back out. It is truly sad what cancer has done to his body.
