Kronberg, 19. May 2020 The Kronberg Academy Foundation is cancelling all major events scheduled up to the end of 2020 owing to the coronavirus pandemic. This affects the Cello Masterclasses & Concerts in September and Masters in Performance, as well as the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann in Berlin. Masters in Performance, an event in which Kronberg Academy’s young soloists perform their final recitals and examination concerts, will take place behind closed doors. The Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann, an established cello competition that was to be run by Kronberg Academy together with Berlin University of the Arts in November, has been postponed and is now set to take place in November 2022 – marking the 120th anniversary of Emanuel Feuermann’s birth. The precise date of this event is still to be confirmed.

Raimund Trenkler, Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Kronberg Academy Foundation, explained that “this decision, which was taken in agreement with our project partners, was extremely difficult for us. It has a severe impact on us all. Nevertheless, after careful consideration we came to the conclusion that our events are not viable under the current legal conditions, particularly from an artistic perspective but also in economic terms. Likewise, we are responsible for the health of our artists, our audiences and our team.”

In view of the legal regulations in place worldwide, it is likely that too many of the most important figures at these events, including international students, artists, tutors and jury members, would be unable to travel to them. In addition, the distancing and hygiene rules prescribed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic would make it impossible to create the unique atmosphere of an international “family reunion” between generations of musicians, which has always been an intrinsic part of Kronberg Academy.
