The wonderful Cilla Black thrusted me back to my time of immersion in scouseland, scouse humour, Scottie Road, the Liver Building, the Holy Corner (a street junction), Penny Lane (I lived right there overlooking the street sign that got stolen repeatedly), and of course the Reds.

It is lovely that she never lost her scouse inflections in the way she talked, and even sang. Check up on the way she says and sings “there” in “Let there be love”.

That’s some mighty fine jazz pianism there, and Dudley showed great accompanying skills. The bassist and drummer were top-notch as well.
And Dud might have gotten a couple of laughs from the scatting, but it was certainly as good as anything Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross did! You may have noticed he simultaneously played the line he scatted on the piano.
Cilla Black, of course, is familiar (and what a marvelous talent she had), but the great discovery (for me) is Marion Montgomery. Drop-dead sexy, and a great singer to boot.
