2 orchestras play today under the same conductor
mainThe Rotterdam Philharmonic has given a Mozart performance with some of its players together with the Israel Philharmonic, with whom they share a music director.
Lahav Shani played the solo part of the slow movement of Mozart’s 27th piano concerto in a performance carried on the Facebook pages of the two orchestras and (below) on Youtube.
Both countries mark anniversaries of their war dead at this time of year.
It is good to have different orchestras playing together. Kurt masur did it at the Albert hall.
On what basis is it good?
Experience. Also different orchestras have different qualities
So when at 1-24 an RPO horn player and IPO horn player are playing together, they are playing with different qualities, are they?
I can’t say I noticed that.
But if any listener did notice that they are playing with different qualities, would that be good?
One person not hearing any difference does not automatically mean that there is no actual difference. Two fine orchestras playing together may not necessarily always be particularly “good” for listeners, but it is usually a very positive and uniquely inspiring experience for the musicians.
Yannick N-S did it several times with his orchestra in Montreal and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa — concerts played in both cities. Aside from expanding the size and therefore the capacity to play certain pieces, it was surely an interesting experience for both orchestras.
