I’m staying away from everything that’s viral at the moment.

Bully for them, but this is all a fad. And I don’t want any more home concerts, home playing, sad put together videos of this and that. I want to sit in a real concert hall and listen to real live music. Otherwise I’m better off with recordings.

There is no real demand for these at-home efforts – and as this drags on, and on, both the enthusiasm and the content will diminish.

Although I agree that I really miss live concerts from the Detroit Symphony, I couldn’t disagree with you more. This, and others that are out there, do one great thing. They put a smile on your face, at least on mine. Others bring outright laughs. Someday the coronavirus will be beaten, we can get back to our normal lives, and the need for these particular smiles and laughs will go away. Until then, I suggest you enjoy them for what they are and appreciate the smiles. Or not, but understand that a lot of the rest of us are smiling a little more because of things like this.

Tom, very well said. Smile or not, these aren’t meant to replace, or even replicate, concert hall or professionally-recorded experiences, but to allow us to experience music in a new way during extraordinary times. To be fair, the quality of the sound, ensemble, and interpretations is below normal standards, but that’s not really what these are about. I also find it interesting to see musicians in their home environments.

    Noooooooo my instrument isn’t listed!!!!

One really wearies of these endless “viral” videos, which are, more often than not, little more than vanity projects. (see: Yannick’s maudlin, affected Rachmaninov video from a few days ago). Even in the midst of a global crisis, people feel the need to be the centre of attention and to make it be about them.
