ARTNews reports that Mayor Bill de Blasio, facing financial disaster, is proposing to take $10.6 million out of the Department of Cultural Affairs budget. Small change for Wall Street, but dire for the arts.

  • CA says:

It’s a measly $10 million. Many deep pocketed individuals still around who could write a check that size. I’m not arguing for a greater cut but it’s a drop in the bucket if that city is looking to cut costs. Probably a cut so that every line item would have a cut.

With less programming during lockdown might not be as damaging. I hear the MET will be streaming an “at home” gala this Saturday. I imagine artist fees are in kind.
