    Haven’t we suffered enough?

  • Marshall says:

Amazing no reference to the Met Opera Gala of today? If I missed it here-OK, if not isn’t that inexcusable, whatever one’s view of Gelb? Oh, Kaufmann is scheduled to be in it.

    • M2N2K says:

Looks like you are right – no mention of the Met event here. It was an extraordinary four-hour-long “concert” indeed, in spite of all its logistical and technical difficulties and imperfections.

      • V.Lind says:

        Very odd it was overlooked.

The sound, from the bits I listened to , were pretty awful. But it was a gargantuan and admirable effort.

An astonishing oversight. Luckily I read about it in Canada, where of course there is a lot of interest in all things Yannick.

        • M2N2K says:

Since I heard all four hours of it, I can tell you that about half was at least good which is pretty remarkable. The article in Operawire about that event is very fair and I agree with most of what it says.

  • Wayne Olsen says:

What a great gift from a great artist.

  • Not too close to the mic. says:

    Does he have a cover?

    • Helena says:

Not too close to the mix: Yes, Mr. Kaufmann has a cover for tomorrow night. A photo of the cover has just been posted on Mr. Kaufmann’s Instagram account…

  • Jane says:

Put your cynical misery aside: my parched soul can barely wait to hear Kaufmann und Deustch perform Dichterliebe on Monday night – come on, what a gift!

  • Mimi T says:

It was a fabulous evening and the video is still available today. Mr Kaufmann gave a particularly powerful performance. My thanks to all who made the gala possible. Music is even more inspirational in these unusual circumstances of present day life.

  • Tinkerbelle says:

Yes, it was an inspiring concert with lashings of humanity. Everyone was amazing, especially love Gunther Groissbock and Rene Pape. Watch and weep!

  • Mrs. Runcie says:

The Saturday concert didn’t have cheerful music at all. The Singers – Rene Fleming and Kaufman were in good voice. Pity not pleasant music! I trust Monday will be FAR BETTER.

  • Geoffrey Riggs says:

Marshall is right. Not setting up a discussion page for the Saturday At-Home Gala is “inexcusable” indeed. The blind anti-Gelb fanaticism here has gone way behind the merely absurd here and turned this place into a Kool-Aid Amen corner for a bogus reality that has nothing to do with the real world. Those who still credit this site as having any legitimacy left are just delusional cultists in a sick fantasy world.
