Opera magazine reports the death of Arlene Saunders, an American member of Hamburg’s ⁦Staatsoper company who sang on many major stages. She was 89 and died of Covid-19.

She sang Eva at the Metropolitan Opera in Die Meistersinger in 1976. She also appeared at La Scala, Covent Garden, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Buenos Aires.

    a lovely woman with a lovely voice; she was a mainstay of rolf liebermann’s hamburg ensemble in the late 1960s and early 1970s where she triumphed above all in strauss and wagner; she will be fondly remembered by those who were lucky enough to hear and see her

    She performed at the Colón theater, Buenos Aires, as Minnie in “LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST” 1979, Santuzza in “CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA” 1980 and La Mariscala in “Der Rosenkavalier”, 1985.
    This occasion was her farewell to the stage.
