Comments

  • They gave also their program for the next season today.

  • Musica says:

that’s not the whole of Paris (yet), is it?!

    • david hilton says:

No, it isn’t. Theatre des Champs-Elysees (seats 1,900) hasn’t cancelled it’s schedule for next week yet, including a sold out joint recital for Renée Fleming and Evgeny Kissin.

  • Cleveland fan says:

Cleveland Orchestra has just cancelled their tour of Europe and Abu Dhabi.

  • vienna says:

Cleveland cancelled their whole tour anyway.

  • Brettermeier says:

It’s one of these times in which ignorant people have to be protected from themselves and less ignorant people from the aforementioned ignorant people.

  • Anarhimik says:

Kinda sad, I have tickets for 5 concerts from the list. Paris Opera also shut its doors till end of April. This year must be disastrous for PO as it’s has been closed since 3rd December thanks to the strike

  • Karl says:

US events are being cancelled now. The five-city tour of English Musical Splendor, which was to feature the Yale Philharmonia, Yale Schola Cantorum, and The Bach Choir, London, has been cancelled. I was going to attend that in Boston tonight.

  • GG says:

I’d expect more than two weeks of cancelations, as I don’t think the Covid-19 situation will improve over the coming weeks.

  • Kyle A Wiedmeyer says:

Interesting. Was it not possible to limit ticket sales to <1,000?

    • Paris Philarmonie has 2400 places and all those events were sold out or sold out at 80-90% the moment they cancelled. The average of this place is around 95% sold out. It’s very popular indeed.

    • GG says:

They’ve probably sold more than 1000 tickets per night already.

Also, if you keep a concert with ~900 tickets, you’d still have the same costs to pay (orchestra & soloists concert fees) but much less income, thus a likely deficit. Cancelling may mean the costs (orchestra & soloists cancelation fees) are compensated by insurance policy (I’d hope they’re properly covered)… so maybe less expensive at the end.

    • Incredulous says:

At the point at which you have any kind of major cancelations I would think it becomes untenable to have the event. In addition to having to mount the event knowing there would be loss of some ticket revenue, you have the social scare of people not wanting to gather – and it’s not a good look when others are closing.

  • Tamino says:

But wow, what a dense schedule of high class concerts (it was).
