The trumpeter Wallace Roney has died of Coronavirus complications.

A Philadelphian who studied with Clark Terry and Dizzy Gillespie, he hooked up with Miles Davis in the 1980s, who began mentoring Roney in the mid-’80s and made an awards-laden career.

  • Bill Ecker says:

    Huge loss, RIP.

  • ArabesqueCookie says:

His late wife Geri Allen (d. 2017 from cancer) was one of the most exceptional jazz pianists of her generation –those born in the 1950s-1960s.

Such a tragic loss for jazz with both Geri and now Wallace gone.

  • Barry Guerrero says:

Wallace Roney was a very, very good jazz trumpeter. Some of the tunes he liked to do were a bit more modern and ‘out’ than I care for, but his agility on the horn was never in doubt. I’m sure many in the jazz and trumpet communities will miss him.
