In our recent Spectator conversation, Antonio Pappano mentioned that he was taking the Santa Cecilia Orchestra to a residency at the Salzburg Easter Festival, an unprecedented recognition for an Italian orchestra. Apparently that’s some way ahead.

The details  of the 2021 feswtival are confirmed today. Pappano will conduct Hilary Hahn in a Mozart concerto, followed by Mahler’s 7th symphony with the Dresden Staatskapelle.

Hahn will receive the Herbert von Karajan Prize.

Netrebko will sing her first new-production Turandot.

Philippe Herrweghe conducts the Bach B-minor Mass.

By then hopefully Italians will be able to travel again, but if things get very bad in this much hyped worldwide Chinese engineered pandemic he might by then be conductor of the Santa Cecilia Chamber Orchestra.

The corona virus originated in China. All experts agree it is not a Chinese “engineered” pandemic. Please stick to facts.

If you get this thing, you’ll then know that there’s plenty of justification for your “much hyped” observation.
