Message just received:

British baritone Simon Neal is indisposed and is unable to sing the role of Don Pizarro in tonight’s performance of Fidelio. The role will now be sung by German baritone Michael Kupfer-Radecky, making his Royal Opera debut….

The rest of the cast remains unchanged.

He was perfectly adequate and the rest of the cast were very good, even Jonas Kaufmann the voice isn’t what it was 10 years ago but his acting was superb and Lise Davidsen was superb. The first half set was traditional and good the second half set conceptual but it focussed you on the music. This is the best Fidelio I’ve seen at the Garden in 50 years although Vickers was a better Florestan. Read my review in the Edinburgh Music Review.
