Austria virus: Vienna faces shutdown
mainThe Austrian health minister Rudolf Anschober announced this morning that indoor gatherings will be limited to 100 participants and outdoor events to 500.
That seems to spell shut down for the Vienna Opera, Musikverein and other large venues.
UPDATE: Italians are banned from entering Austria.
Phew… lucky that John Williams with VPO is history.
The Force was strong with this one.
I have tickets to see Nezet-Seguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra perform the nine Beethoven symphonies over the course of the next four Sunday afternoons. I’m starting to feel like there is a race against time to get them in before the virus hits Philadelphia. There are already a few cases in the area. I’m increasingly skeptical that I’ll get all four in.
Yes @ Carnegie. I have two, as well.
What this virus will do to concerts and tours must be extremely worrying to all orchestras and the management.
The loss of income and audiences will be a serious issue and could threaten prospects and jobs.
I cannot see any easy solution and we will have to find some creative ways to help deal with the circumstances that develop..
Increase the space between musicians and audience.

Get back to making more recordings. Nobody has to go anywhere. They can be delivered, either physically or online.
This morning, half an hour before leaving to the airport for my flight to LA, I found out that PIATIGORSKY Cello Festival is cancelled…
Very sad…
probably also the Easter Festival…
…in Salzburg
Spouse and myself came very close to visiting Vienna again this year for the music season, from February. What a lucky escape that we decided against it at the last minute!!
ironically your photo shows the interior of the Wiener Kammeroper, which seats about a hundred (and might actually be able to remain open under the caps you cite)
