Oh, Canada! Governor-General sings in Yannick’s chorus
mainIt has been intimated to us that the Governor-General of Canada, Julie Payette – effectively the head of state beneath the Queen – rehearsed and performed among the sopranos in Mozart’s C-minor Mass with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Choeur Métropolitain.
The performances were in Ottawa in Wednesday and Montreal the following night.
Yannick annoucned her participation after the first performance, to tumultuous applause.
I remember hearing when she was appointed that she was a very accomplished musician, who had sung with the OSM, Tafelmusik and other professional choirs. This woman is an engineer, was an astronaut and speaks six languages.
As G-G, she has a coat of arms. Hers includes as crest a musical stave bearing the first notes of the second movement of Alessandro Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in D minor Sable.
Apparently a woman of parts.
She sang with OSM for long years indeed, until just before she`s appointed GG (and even after)
