Dutch concertmaster dies, 78

Jaring Walta, who has died at 78, was concertmaster from 1970 to 2003 at the Residentie Orkest in The Hague. Before that, he played in the Concertgebouw.

He taught for almost 40 years at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

    This is a name one encounters, as teacher, in the bios of a number of very well-equipped symphony violinists. The recording of the sonata displays vivid and committed playing by both artists. It is the first time I ever actually heard examples of his playing.

    May the memory of him be eternal ! My condolences to his family and his current and former students.
    We lost last month Emanuel Borok , the retired Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and a former Associate Concertmaster of the Boston Symphony. I am his former student that have known him for 30 years. I know how painful is for the former students of Mr. Walta.
