We have to hear from Baltimore that Phil Munds has won the #1 horn seat at the Royal Opera House.

Covent Garden never tell anyone anything.

Must be time for us to do another world’s worst press office list.

Well this looks like a lovely full circle indeed! His bio says his mother was once the children’s chorus director at Covent Garden. Well done! https://www.bsomusic.org/musicians/musician/philip-munds/

  • Siegfried says:

The ROH have 2 principal horns – the other is David Pyatt.

  • Axl says:

David Pyatt was also appointed new principal to Covent Garden last year. Two new first horns

If you are a fan of the Baltimore SO, its pretty apparent that quite a few high profile players are leaving for better jobs. Another wakeup call for management to support the orchestra with a good contract not only to retain players but to attract new ones.

  • John Garrity says:

Congratulations to him! As a fellow Baltimorian, I hope he remembers to pack his Old Bay.

  • Davey says:

Hasn’t the tuba player fled the depths of the pit for the LSO too?

  • Andrew Balio says:

We will miss his impeccable playing, as will our audiences.

  • Terry Frederick says:

Well done, Phil. Just watching the PROMS performance on MPT as part of their COVID19 programming. A great performance!
