Teatro Colon musicians stage wage protests

Musicians and dancers at the Colon in Buenos Aires are staging nightly protests against low wages and job insecurity.

The theatre, supposedly the best in South America, has appalling labour relations.

    It mat be the best in South America — it must certainly be the most beautiful. I also found it comfortable and acoustically fine, though I had excellent seats.

    Ticket prices were shockingly cheap.

    They did the same thing a few years back when I was there. I believe the musicians are city employees……in any case they hadn’t been paid for weeks back then. It’s nuts.
