A dozen years ago, the deceptively young-looking Santu-Matias Rouvali took part in a TV reality show in which he formed a rock band, Taltta.

He’s the one in the red tie.

And here’s how he sounded on guitar.

Oddly enough, none of this has appeared in his PR-cleansed CV.

  • Max says:

Wow! He’s actually better at guitar playing than at conducting!
Maybe the most overrated conductor of all times…imho.

  • Mustafa Kandan says:

He is lucky if he survived this experience without suffering a long term hearing damage.

  • fflambeau says:

    So what?

  • Michael says:

If true, this would be relevant to his current occupation how ?

Deceptively young looking? He is only 34, so I would hope so!

  • !! says:

Love this!! Definitely going to be at more Philharmonia concerts from now on! Someone with a real sense of rhythm!

  • Aidan says:

Is that a problem ? It’s still music isn’t it ? Look at Rod Stewart topping the charts with the RPO !

Around the 2:10 mark he talks about his past in rock n roll bands a little. He’s a well rounded, non ignorant musician. Feet in the s*&t, head in the clouds.

  • B says:

He used to play perc too – during the concert after the announcement of his appointment he explained to the audience he used to play percussion and did an encore on behalf of the whole orchestra, playing Monti Czardas on marimba.
