Paris Opera will stay shut until mid-Jan

The continuing pension rights strikes have forced the company to extend its shutdown to January 11, at the earliest.

Artists who have been engaged for cancelled productions will still be paid.

  • Oh please… There are no performances scheduled between Jan. 1st and Jan 10th. The shutdown is therefore not extended.
The revival of Il Barbiere di Siviglia premieres, in theory, on Jan 11th. Nobody knows if it will take place.

  • A strike to hold on to ridiculously generous & in the long term unaffordable pension system. It is fortunate that Britain did not go along this path.
