Anthony Hunt has quit, citing homesickness for Adelaide.

Sydney and Melbourne need a chorus master.

They should call one of the three who left Glyndebourne in as many years.

A considerable loss. Anthony is a first class musician and chorus master – and a terrific bloke.

  • Anthony Hunt says:

    Hi Norman,

Your blogpost makes things sound a little more dramatic than in reality.

I am moving to Adelaide (which is indeed “home” although I haven’t lived there for 13 years) with my young family to take up positions as Head of Music/Chorus Master at State Opera of South Australia, and as Director of Music at St Peter’s Cathedral.

Paul Fitzsimon, a wonderful conductor and repetiteur on music staff at Opera Australia, has already commenced as Chorus Master to succeed me.

It’s been a privilege and pleasure to work for Opera Australia and their fantastic chorus, but it’s time for a new chapter closer to family; and a greater musical variety in my life, including conducting a Sweeney Todd for SOSA later in 2020, and of course a return to playing the organ at St Peter’s, which I have missed doing regularly whilst in Sydney.

All the very best to you for in this new stage of your life and career, Anthony. It sounds like you have found a pretty perfect balance with this move!

  • Blitz says:

Opera Australia? It’s more like Musical Australia now.
