    Cheeky, Norman. And they’ve no room for a former Radio 3 man, renowned for his searching and insightful interviews? :-;

  • Norbert says:

    It speaks volumes that this man’s ego is just so limitlessly vast, that he just cannot cease broadcasting. It’s a strange and discernable phenomenon, when long-standing broadcasters just cannot bring themselves to hang-up their boots.

    £600,000 a year he earnt on the tax-payers back with Radio 4, to interrupt, overspeak, shout-down, trivialise, belittle and humiliate democratcially elected people making great sacrifices in their own lives to make a contribution he was never brave enough to make, and now we are supposed to listen to his opinions on classical music.

    John Suchet at least one can respect – a knowledgeable and passionate published author who has earnt his badges – Humphries, an overpaid arrogant egoist whose indelible achievement is…..ummm……oh….nothing!

    Why do these charachters not have the grace to leave the stage when the play is over?

      Hear hear Norbert … just another Welsh Windbag

      You obviously didn’t realize at the time that you were being lectured towards a better life by a bien pensant who had far more impeccable moral credentials than most of us. And a willingness to demonstrate that. I’m afraid public broadcasting is – or should be – in its death dive. There are myriad alternate voices out there and they will be heard.

  • Has-been says:

    Think you have to be in the United States to appreciate Jon Humphries. The weak and insipid interviewing of politicians [with a few exceptions] in the US is disappointing. Humphries was a treasure, however irritating, in holding politicians accountable.

    • Una says:

      Yes, greatly missed for this General Election we’ve just had in the UK. I’ve listened to the Today programme for about 40 years plus and never been so bland since he left Radio 4.

  • Rob says:

    Enormous ego ?

  • Una says:

    Look forward to hearing him as hes an interesting and articulate man and a fine broadcaster. Plus he will be one who will make sure he pronounces names of works and composers properly! No more ‘Pye Jee Zoo’ for ‘Pie Jesu!’

  • Rachel says:

    I orginally thought they had Alexander Armstrong on to cross promote his career but he never mentions other ventures. While not my first choice for classical music (I am a fan of Radio Swiss Classic…little rambling) or Jim Sveda on KUSC, Los Angeles…educated if pompous rambling).
    Often one wants classical wallpaper…ergo Classic FM.
