Measha Brueggergosman has been steadily giving concerts in Vancouver, Oslo and St. Catharines, Ontario, before a full return to the Toronto Symphony this week.

The soprano has survived a stroke and heart attacks over the past decade.

‘It’s not the first time I’ve rebuilt the voice,’ she said. ‘It’s to me a very exciting prospect because I get to know ‘her’ — my voice is a female. She’s very taciturn, but also stalwart and very loyal.’

She gave a beautiful Wesendonck-Lieder in New York, with Cleveland Orchestra, a number of years back. I did wonder at times, where she had gone.

Bravo !!!! I remember her as an inspiring soloist at a recital in Melbourne a few years ago.
Continued good health now, I hope.

A wonderful singer. I first heard of her by accident — one of the lost joys of browsing in record stores: the local Borders used to have listening stations where, if you didn’t mind putting on headphones that had been on who-knows-who-else’s head, you could scan the bar code of any CD and listen to snippets of it before buying. Usually it was just 30 seconds or so (like Amazon nowadays), but once in awhile the system would hiccup and just keep on playing.

I stood there and listened to her entire “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” and thought it was just beautiful. I still do.

Been a big fan ever since. I hope she has a long and glorious career.

From the article linked above: “I am now on my triple portion of grace because … after the first open-heart surgery and now after the second, there’s so much to live for,” she said. “I have young sons. I have a world to change for the better.”
