German President gongs Wong

Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, Kahchun Wong, 33, has been conferred the Order of Merit by the Federal President of Germany.

It’s for ‘his dedicated service and outstanding achievements in Singaporean-German cultural relations and the advancement of German music culture abroad.’

    I heard this guy conduct Mahler 5 in Bangkok yesterday and he’s impressive. The Thailand Philharmonic is not without it’s weaknesses but they played with real commitment and obviously enjoyed working with him. He’s interesting to watch too, with a very clear year free technique.
