Scherzo reports that Pablo Heras-Casado has resigned immediately as director of the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada for ‘strictly personal reasons outside of the festival’.

He will not work out his contract, which runs to 2021.

Something’s up.

Did he discover his inability to show any insight into music whatsoever? It is impossible to understand how this man has any semblance of a career.

    • FrauGeigerin says:

I wonder what the reason is. Perhaps there are budget cuts or there is a real personal reason.
Honestly, I think he is a music mediocrity and proof that agencies can create careers for whomever they wish with little effort. He “looked right” and was easy to sell: attractive, different to other conductors’ physical appearance, very hipster, southern European… This man raised from the dark, the agencies pushed him into a career he was not ready for, agencies made orchestras engaged him… and most of them never called him back. I performed with him with my previous orchestra and I found him pedantic, and technically deficient. The musicians report was not good and to this day I don’t think he has been re-engaged.

    • A few years ago Mr Heras-Casado came to Chicago, and led the Chicago Symphony in a performance of Debussy’s “La boite a joujoux”, in Andre Caplet’s orchestration. I shall never forget how he turned every corner of this strange and complicated score (a CSO premiere I believe) with total and elegant command. I don’t know the man at all, but it was one of the highlights of the year.

Disagree. His Mendelssohn cycle is unequaled, and won’t be for a very long time.

      • Bob says:

The only PHC Mendelssohn i have heard is his concert with the Berlin Philharmonic, and they sound great (as they always do) but he seems confined into his own self and detached from the orchestra. It kinda looks like a choreografie.

Buy the disc. All symphonies and overtures with Freiburg Barockorchester. Absolutely amazing. +violin concerto with Faust

Martie: And just what kind of vindictive pr*ck are you? Did Harrison & Parrott show you the door?
Musical insight? And what would you know about that? There’s in fact plenty of evidence on Youtube of what a great conductor this is. You might aswell use your ears before you rant about professionals, mister Cockhead!

He celebrated his 42nd birthday on instagram yesterday with a bottle of champers…

    “Something’s up”… actually, probably down.

  • Anton Bruckner says:

    To the Concergebouw?

  • Michel says:

IS he not in the short list of the Orchestre de Paris ? I wouldn’t be immensly surprised if he is nominated chef of this orchestra.
