John died last night, aged 86.

John was one of the very small band of people who conducted a live performance of Brian’s Gothic Symphony. Back in the day when Sky still broadcast classical music programmes they showed a documentary about preparations for that performance in Australia.
Also, Brett Dean studied viola with him and played in his youth orchestra.
Thousands, without doubt. I will never forget this truly great pedagogue and I owe him a great deal.. My condolences to his lovely family.
