The singer has not given an extended interview since AP broke his reputation with a slew of unnamed sex-pest allegations.

While in Russia this month, he gave a half-hour interview in English to RT’s Sophie Shevardnaze.

The obsequious presenter fails to put a single question about the allegations, but PD does give hints about his present frame of mind:

I think that music helps us in many difficult moments in our life. So I think the music today is a little more complicated. Before people would arrive home in the old days, and still when the gramophone started to play, they would go home and they would listen to music. There was no television. So it has changed today, but of course the people that learn and love it – yes – they will go home and they will listen to music, even at home. They don’t need to go to the theater to listen to music, but today there’s so much with the television, with all grades of spectacles that you can go and see it, sports, everything.

You might interpret this as Placido saying there is life for him after the opera house.

The rest of the interview consists of pure Placitudes.

creepy the way he eyes her, wonder if Marta was in the room too

  • The View from America says:

    Oh, joy.

  • Karl says:

“AP broke his reputation”? Not at all. The AP broke it’s own reputation. Now it’s just another fake news organization, spewing salacious lies and innuendo to get more readers.

    • Lynne says:

Domingo broke his own reputation. AP continues to be the reliable news source it always was.

    • david hilton says:

True. The AP still hasn’t run a correction for the false headline to its second Domingo article, which headline claimed that 11 new “accusers” had come forward. Only problem: the article only reported on 3 new accusers (one of whom was complaining only about Domingo “whispering in her ear while she was backed up against a wall” 30 years ago). Yet this highly misleading AP story is the only source for the universally-repeated claim that “20” women have made accusations against Domingo. It is impossible to find even half that number in the published press.

  • LunchtimeOBoulez says:

RT is an English-language channel – operated as a courtesy for monolingual drongs who have failed to learn any other languages.

You don’t like the content? Then change the channel, no-one forces you to watch RT. But you would need to learn German, French, Italian, Japanese, or other major world languages.

We’re not all Bundy family hicks.

    • Brettermeier says:

“RT is an English-language channel – operated as a courtesy”

Translated propaganda is not a courtesy but a necessity. How else could Putin’s propaganda network target the “monolingual drongs” as you called them?

(And it’s no courtesy either that the Russian Twitter Bots’ tweets are in English. 😉 )

  • Ludwig's Van says:

RT is Russia’s English language propaganda tool – it’s their Fox News, with the goal to exert global influence.

  • sam says:

RT is in English, which mean Russians couldn’t care less, which means just Putin trolling America.

  • Elizabeth Owen says:

Funnily enough none of the languages you list are considered to be “major world languages”. Recognised World languages are English,Chinese,Russian and Spanish.

    • HugoPreuss says:

Yes, absolutely. And esp. in the world of music nobody needs Italian or German or French. Tiny, insignificant languages.

    • Brettermeier says:

“Recognised World languages are English,Chinese,Russian and Spanish.”

Russian is no world language, but French is. (I speak them both, but prefer Russian, too.)

    • Saxon Broken says:

What makes a language a “world language”? Lots of countries speak French, and it is recognised as an official language by many international organisations. Russian is barely spoken outside the former Soviet Union.

Of course, some people would argue the only true world language is English.

  • Kay Langford says:

    ” Sex pest allegations”???
Are you comparing these women to pesty insects of some kind?

I know that you like him and I equally think he’s a great singer, but women deserve more respect than that in this day and age, don’t you think?

And RT as a more credible source then AP is a complete joke.

    • Vaquero357 says:

I read it as “Allegations that he was a sex [harassment] pest”.

    • Olga says:

RT is certainly a propaganda mouthpiece, I say it as a Russian, but no more than many American channels..and in this case, their coverage is very large, they have translated the interview into German. I don’t know about the Spanish in this case- should..The joke is not that you can’t believe RT, but that more and more people doubt the veracity of AP’s accusations.. the fog clears, and it is clear that Domingo just had to be removed from the post of Director of LA Opera..and #metoo is just a weapon..I was at a concert in Crocus, it was very well received, encores and standing ovations. Women filled up him with flowers…Russians in sight not fear such charming sexual predators: -) many even are prepared their domesticate and to leave in Russia , perishing sorry for the prophecy over such Saint(it seems only in the US) theme obscene behavior Domingo..Europe and Russia are just laughing at you..

  • Osvaldo Natal says:

Enough of this garbage me-too. This is just a ploy for women to get their 15 mins. His so called accuser admits it was nothing more than a proposition and he never touched her. She even said her career was not harmed by him and he later hired her for other roles. Funny how women seem to remember their trauma 30 years later and when they do it’s always I told a friend or hairdresser but never management.
