Roberto Alagna drops out in 2nd act of Don Carlo

The French-Sicilian tenor, feeling unwell, was forced to retire on Friday night in Paris midway through Verdi’s opera.

His place was taken by the Spaniard Sergio Escobar, making his Paris debut.

Fabio Luisi conducted.

    Hope he didn’t make a speech. Aprile Millo stopped Aida once and held forth about her health and how we deserved better, and how Maestro Verdi deserved better, before walking off and leaving us to Washington Opera’s understudy. Arrogance.
