The singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo has been handpicked by the composer for the solo role in his Bowie-tribute 12th symphony, which has its French premiere tomorrow night.

They go back almost 20 years together to a concert where he accompanied her at the piano.

Odd but I’ve never cared for any of his symphonies. And I say odd because unlike most commenters here I love so much of his output. Looking forward to seeing Akhnaten next month at the Met. Maybe it’s that PG is by his own admission primarily a composer for theater.

  • Bus Stop says:

Oh my goodness, this is such an interesting surprise! Angélique Kidjo of Les Amazons d’Afrique to sing in a Philip Glass piece. Well, I can’t wait.
