Pop music is serious music. The people composing it and performing it are very serious about it. You should not confuse your own ignorant snobbery with considered value judgements.
I think one should not confuse cultural illiteracy and ignorance of the history of music (without mentioning the sensitive subject of taste), with understanding the meaning and value of entertainment music.
There is nothing wrong with pop music as a genre, or any entertainment music, even birds and whales have their music, but where it is treated as if on the same level as art music, some important cultural understanding has gone. Cultural hierarchies are not snobbery but means of understanding. Everything has its place but that is not the same place.
