It has taken less than a week for LA Opera to appoint a new general director.

He’s the company’s president and CEO, Christopher Koelsch. LA Opera has been run as a troika since 2012 by Domingo, Koelsch and music director James Conlon. Now it’s a down to a duopoly.

Koelsch is a suit in square designs.

He told staff: ‘I am committed to a vigorous process of reflection and reform. It is imperative that we foster a positive environment that meets the needs of employees as well as the company. We will fall short of our goals unless every member of our community feels heard, valued and respected. I am committed to ensuring that they do.’

I hope you will not deny the company, the vast and valuable input of Domingo and do not allow people to define him by his misdeeds and not enormous contributions to LA opera the whole world of opera. Let’s keep things in perspective and be fair to all sides.

    • Karl says:

Domingo has not been found guilty of any misdeeds. There are only 20-30 year old allegations that appear to be fraudulent.

    • Israel says:

US is now going the way of pre WWII Germany – destruction of the culture icons using baseless and false accusations. If there were “misdeeds” than these should have been resolved in the court of law, but nowadays everything is resolved by dirty yellow press campaigns. Stalin’s USSR also destroyed Russian intelligencia, exiled expulsed and mass murdered people of culture presented threat to the Party dictatorship. But even before that comrades in arms were erased from life and from books and arms were taken from people.
These who don’t learn from history are sentenced to repeat it.

  • M2N2K says:

According to LA Times, Mr. Koelsch, in a letter to the staff of LA Opera, expressed his “deep thanks” to Plácido Domingo for his service to the company, adding that the operatic superstar is leaving behind an organization that is in a “strong financial position, flourishing creatively and well-positioned for the future”.

  • Michael says:

Hmmm!! Here come the politics…What an ungrateful comment! Now we know the real motivation behind the accusations.

  • Hugo Rainer says:

It is shameful how lawyers meddle into the pleasure of opera lovers by interfering into the life of an outstanding opera star. It doesn’t count what Netrebko or Cherakova say. Only lawyer greed is important.

  • Martin Doherty says:

    Idiotic hypocrits

  • Carson says:

    Alleged misdeeds.
