Vladimir Jurowski has renewed his music director contract with the Svetlanov  State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia until summer 2021, taking him up to ten years in the post.

He is also music director of the Berlin Radio Symphony until 2023 and incoming MD of Bavarian State Opera in Munich (while outgoing at the LondonPhilharmonic).

Never an idle moment. IMG Artists takes its cut.

He is barely there anyhow. Looks good on his resume. Top’n’tailed rehearsals.

Would be interesting journalism, if we were given some facts, like what his contract entails, how many programs he is doing there a season for instance.
The insinuations – greedy conductor rakes in the money in multiple jobs done in haste, pushed by his agents – otherwise get tiring and pointless.

The Svetlanov orchestra (IIRC officially known as the State Academic Symphony Orchestra in the name of Svetlanov – GASO) probably plays about a dozen programs (all one-offs) in Moscow each year. I don’t know the extent of their touring. But chances are it doesn’t take a whole lot of his time. But it’s a fine orchestra – or was when I lived in Moscow in the mid-2000s.

Lucky orchestras/houses, all of them! He is a genius and a marvelous person.
