Norway’s Vertavo Quartet has a 35th anniversary coming up.

How to celebrate?

Take the complete works of Joseph Haydn. father of the string quartet, and play them end to end (with some help from a few other musicians) over an autumnal weekend, October 26-27.

Then stream it live@absolutthaydn.

People’s ears will turn to cotton wool with that amount of music.

  • Bill says:

Not the complete works of Haydn but rather the complete works for string quartet by Haydn!

  • Robert Roy says:

The Edinburgh Festival went through a phase when it felt the necessity to present ‘complete cycles’. My personal feeling was that it turned concerts into an endurance test which did little to service the music.

  • MWnyc says:

Norman, you mean the complete string quartets rather than the complete works of Haydn, right? Somehow, I don’t picture the Vertavo Quartet doing the Harmoniemesse,/i> or Il mondo della luna.
