The Bavarian Radio music director, having missed most of the summer and the start of the season with various health issues, returned to Munich this week to start rehearsals for a fortnight of concerts, followed by a short tour.

Looking good.

The concert on Thursday was first class. One could see how happy he was to make music again.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

This IS good news!! Be well, maestro.

  • Rob says:

What’s the point? He does the same repertoire over and over and over. It wouldn’t be so bad if he mixed it up and threw in a Maxwell Davies Symphony.

  • Thomasina says:

The concert on October 11 was the free live-streaming. Generously this concert is available on Facebook and BR-KLASSIK.

  • Martinu says:

Jansons conducted last Thursday in Munich. He didn’t cancel, but alas Diana Damrau did..
Sarah Wegener replaced Damrau, singing nicely, though smallish voice, Strauss songs.
Brahms 4th was played magnificently, but Jansons’ conducting was(for me) deliberate and heavy, in the second and 4th movements. But what a delight to hear that great orchestra in Munich!

  • Gustavo says:

But was he seen at the Opus Klassik do in Berlin?

Lifetime achievement award winners have not much time to waste…

  • Edgar says:

Looking good? To me the photograph tells a less optimistic tale. The maestro looks gaunt.

  • Tamino says:

I feel uneasy, seeing him so obviously frail and not in physical condition to lead without unwanted restrictions.
IMO he should retire honorably. Maybe do a bit of guest conducting if the body allows it.
But please, take care of yourself Maestro. You also have a reputation to lose.
