The Argentine composer Esteban Benzecry asks: ‘What will Gustavo Dudamel and (pianist) Sergio Tempo be demanding after the premiere of my piano concerto?’

The world premiere is coming up at the LA Phil.

¿Que me estarán pidiendo Gustavo Dudamel y Sergio Tiempo luego del ensayo general de mi Piano Concerto?

Comments

  • Gustavo says:

    “Please, destroy the score!”

    (existentialism)

  • Dude says:

Hope the score will make me a better conductor.

  • John S says:

    Sorry will not be there

  • Steven says:

A more accurate translation would be something like “I wonder what Gustavo Dudamel and Sergio Tiempo are asking me for after the dress rehearsal of my Piano Concerto?”

  • Alexander Tarak says:

    A very overrated conductor.

Mr Benzecry uses a lot of noise to wake-up the audience so that it can enjoy the colourful patterns:

But he can also write effective invocations, for instance of the Inca thunder clap god:

    There’s even a violin concerto:

Lots of fantasy and colourful invention there, especially in this concerto. About musical substance I’m rather skeptical, given the many moments of forced noise machine as if to deflect attention from content. All in all a truly interesting composer, who plays around with snippets of traditional tonality and modernist colour patterns.

Based his musical talent (not his gestural talent and energy) and the stage of his career, I would assume the ‘being on the knees’ came long time ago.
