A sad withdrawal at the ROH:

Following surgery in the middle of August to release a trapped nerve in his neck, and under medical advice, Mark Elder has very reluctantly decided to cancel his forthcoming engagement with The Royal Opera.  The Royal Opera’s new production of Death in Venice will now be conducted by English conductor Richard Farnes.

  • John Longstaff says:

They couldn’t have got a better replacement! I’m sure Richard Farnes will do an excellent job!

  • double-sharp says:

Farnes is the real article. Wishing Sir Mark a full recovery.

  • John Rook says:

I only ever hear good things about Richard Farnes. Looking forward to finally hearing his work live, whenever that may be.

  • SP says:

Do you have evidence ir experience of this?

If so, this is a good start to speaking out and you should be commended and encouraged to take it further.

If you don’t and are spouting sweeping libelous nonsense then simply.. please Don’t!!

  • Bass1 says:

    That’s libellous.
