From Gabriella Swallow:

We are currently stranded at Basel Airport because of British Airways total incompetence checking in Cellos …there is only one thing to do to highlight this. Come on Britishairways.com please stop this travel nightmare for us Cellists. Currently stranded at Basel and just want to get home. This is totally unacceptable.

In today’s Times, Willie Walsh of IAG, which owns BA, claimed the brand is damage-proof. Hmmm… let’s see about that.

I’d like to hear more about the details of this situation, and the outcome.

  • Adrian says:

We (6 London cellists plus 6 cellos) were fully booked onto the 6.50am flight Basel to LHR. We got to check-in at 5.20am then that thing happened that SO often happens with BA and cellos: ”we can see your booking, the seats are all ready and blocked off but the computer won’t issue boarding passes”. It’s not fair on BA check-in staff, not fair on cellists, not fair on customers queuing behind cellists. We performed at the desk out of total frustration after over an hour of getting nowhere. 2 out of 6 of us ended up missing the flight. Cellists need to meet BA execs/IT staff at BA HQ to explain the severity and frequency of the BA cello computer glitch (beginning with their odd cello booking system that no other airline shares) and I’m sure we can work this out together. Meanwhile…let’s keep the prelude protests coming.

    • V.Lind says:

Well, I recommend that cellists arrange that meeting and get as many as possible of your number to attend. One spokesman, but plenty of signatures on an explanatory petition.

  • John says:

I need to hear no more. They can check those lousy instruments. And check the juvenile interpretation as well.

  • Celia Pond says:

Keep screaming…..the BA airline boss, others too for sure, doesn’t know which of their staff is not properly trained.

  • Giovanni Orsini says:

Why don’t you just fly another airline? Most instrumentalists know to avoid BA like the plague.
