Just in: Birmingham student, 20, wins Busoni Competition

The Bulgarian pianist Emanuil Ivanov, presently studying at Birmingham Royal Conservatory with Pascal Nemirovski and Anthony Hewitt, has come first in the Ferrucio Busoni International Competition in Bolzano, Italy.

The Busoni contest has been a launchpad for major careers.

Second was Shiori Kuwahara of Japan. Third was Giorgi Gigashvili.

    Surely a music writer should know it’s now called Royal Birmingham Conservatoire?!

    Congratulations to Emanuil and his wonderful teachers! (Pascal has been a dear friend since the early 1980s. He is a fabulous teacher, obviously.)
