If it was all-female, some people here would be screaming that it was rigged for something like “gender revenge over centuries of male domination.” But it’s all-male, all THREE of them, so it must be chauvinism. Given the sample size, how about the likelihood of it meaning absolutely nothing?

I need to go back to bed.

  • axl says:

So? It doesn’t matter of gender. It’s the final of best players – not the best female or male players.
I don’t like the news kind of “the finalist are all men” and so on.
This is music competition and only the musical skill’s are important. Music and skills first – not the gender

  • BP says:

I believe Philippe Berrod was (or is) the teacher of the French clarinetist. He’s a wonderful musician and teacher and I don’t doubt he’ll be impartial but still worth mentioning.

  • Decency says:

It’s indecent for females to play the clarinet and the cello, one is phallic, the other, well, if women could play the cello “side saddle”, that’d be fine.

  • Fliszt says:

Years ago, the Geneva competition judged men & women separately, so there was always a 1st prize for each.

  • muslit says:

Not all female? Not all Asian? But Christophe is really HOT!

  • Caranome says:

Let’s do the American way: non-winners get participation medals, so no one’s feelings are hurt. “Oh Jennifer, you did great!!! Good try. Keep up your dream!”

  • Nadia says:

They’re all great players, why is their gender a problem? I thought the judges should evaluate talent, not trousers and skirts.

  • V.Lind says:

It’s all obviously a vast right wing conspiracy.

For the love of God, can we grow out of this? If the best entrants were women they would be among the finalists. I know a number of women cellists and clarinetists having thriving careers, so at least over here (Canada) it is not an issue. And I suspect in the UK, and in Europe, there are also plenty. God knows, there are enough women conductors.

Just listen to the playing, verdampt.

  • Jim says:

I am very disappointed that you haven’t told us what any of them were wearing. We have to know how much leg each of them showed.
Please, please stick to the important issues.

  • david says:

what is important? music or gender?

  • Claudio says:

This preocupation with gender is quite ironic, coming from a blog that has described the allegation against Placido Domingo as “a take down” by the Associated Press.
