Covent Garden’s surtitles are stopped by rain

Before the ROH performance of Werther last night, there was a stage announcement that the simultaneous surtitles were out of action, following heavy downpours that had penetrated the house and damaged the technology.

Post Brexit, it looks like we’re going to have to learn languages again.

Could this be another establishment plot against the will of the people?

Just after Boris addresses the UN about the superiority of London as a technology centre in every kind of technology (and he went on — and on, and on — to enumerate many kinds)!

Can’t this PM tell is straight about ANYTHING? 🙂

To be fair it is not entirely his fault that the roof of the ROH appears to be leaking. May be the fault of previous governments, with lack of infrastructure funding for the arts…

As for surtitles: read the programme notes, and lean back and listen to the MUSIC.

Glad you accept that it’s not his fault. So far as funding is concerned, have you forgotten that a considerable amount of money was (quite rightly) spent on the main building not so long ago, and substantial changes to the Linbury Theatre have only just been completed?

I think that the architects/construction company might have a case to answer.

    Signing in the rain?

Is this still the system installed by Figaro Systems of Santa Fe? Part of the auditorium of the Crosby Theater, home of Santa Fe Opera, is open at the sides, so at least a basic level of weatherproofing should be present!
