The brass player and organiser Philip Biggs died yesterday after a brief bout with cancer.

Founder of the All England Masters Championship and of Brass Herald magazine, Philip was appointed Event Manager by the London Symphony Orchestra for the 1997 European Brass Band Championships at the Barbican Centre.

From 1996 to his death he was Administrator for The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

    Yes, an incredibly sad piece of news. Condolences to family and friends. Philip, who alongside many other accomplishments started and ran “The Brass Herald” magazine, is going to leave a huge gap in people’s affections and in their musical lives.

    Still shocked over this news several days on. Philip was an innovative force in the worldwide brass community. He was a gentleman, an enthusiastic supporter and encourager, and a wonderful friend who will be sorely missed.
