Where’s Yannick?
mainHe has just cancelled a long-booked summer gig.
Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin is postponing his return to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center due to family reasons following an injury sustained by his partner, Pierre Tourville. Mr. Nézet-Séguin has withdrawn from the concerts on August 7 and 8 but will return on August 16 and 17. He looks forward to greeting audiences in Saratoga next week after much-needed time with Pierre during the early stages of recovery. The Philadelphia Orchestra and Saratoga Performing Arts Center are very grateful to Philadelphia Orchestra Assistant Conductor Kensho Watanabe for stepping in.
Rightly, family comes first. I wish Pierre a speedy recovery.
Don’t any PR people know “due to” + “reason” = redundancy?
There’s no announcement on the SPAC website. Unless you click on the concert details and see the conductor is Kensho Watanabe you see the concert listed as “Yannick Returns”. Some people are going to be surprised. And I would have been one of them if I had not had the time to check in here. I’m still going – it’s Rachmaninoff’s 1st Symphony, a concert hall rarity. I was really looking forward to hearing Yannick’s interpretation.
I heard them play it at Carnegie Hall recently, it was fabulous. From what I understand, it will be available next year on CD.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philly Orchestra make me want to move back home.
Pierre and Yannick have become very important to my musical world. I am looking forward to Turandot on Saturday. Pierre, may you have a speedy recovery.
