Festival artists refuse to accept pounds sterling

Fergus Linehan, director of the Edinburgh Festival has told the Financial Times that currency swings ahead of Brexit have affected his artistic planning:

‘No one wants to do deals in sterling anymore . . . so you’ve got to do all the arrangements in dollars and euros… If the currency stays at this level . . . our buying power is down,’ said Mr Linehan. ‘Obviously our currency being in the toilet doesn’t help.’

    Rate of exchange in the supermarket today – £1 is Euro1.041 a massive drop over the last few months so I don’t blame them and I expect the Festival was budgeted on a higher rate than that. It can only get worse.
