The singer will appear tonight in Szeged with Placido Domingo Jr, the US soprano Ana Maria Martinez, a 15 year-old local pianist Soma Balázs-Piri and an orchestra conducted by Eugene Kohn.

Although Domingo is untouched in Europe by an AP sexual harrassment report, demands are being heard in the US that he should voluntarily withdraw from the Met’s revival of Verdi’s Macbeth, where he is scheduled to appear on September 25, opposite Anna Netrebko.

The Met says it is waiting on LA Opera’s investigation of the AP charges before confirming his participation, but the date is drawing near and the uncertainty is doing no-one any good – least of all the Met box-office.

Domingo, 78, shows no sign of stepping down.

Yes, better for everyone to ignore what’s going on in hypocritical Pussy-Grabber land.

  • RICHARD CRAIG says:

as far as performing Macbeth at the met.he aught really to get a grip on himself and withdraw his voice is way passed its sell by date

    • Emil says:

I heard him as Macbeth in Berlin three months ago, and the voice was fine. He should still not perform at the Met, for obvious reasons.
Saying he should withdraw for vocal reasons now is giving him cover and a way to escape the actual reason why he should withdraw (or be withdrawn).

  • The View from America says:

If he wears the shirt in the photo above, I’m sure it’ll be a mesmeric performance.

  • Caravaggio says:

Martinez and Kohn are appendages of Domingo and his inner circle thus loyalists, careerists and groupies in one, determined to look the other way because the close association has benefited them for years. Take a stand or make a fuss they won’t.

  • George says:

Plácido Domingo is the last singer of a let’s say “golden age of opera”. Just take the lengendary artists he performed with, in so many memorable performances…Freni, Scotto, Ghiaurov, Sutherland…and so many more. Just watch the duet from Manon Lescaut with Scotto on youtube…amazing! It is nice that people do not forget that even today.

It seems to me that these “golden days of opera” times are over now.
The times when people slept overnight in front of opera houses to get a ticket to see Callas, Pavarotti or Domingo – which was a highlight of a lifetime.

Domingo has also always been extremely nice to his fans, much more than most other artists. He spent thousands of hours of his life signing autographs and taking photos with them after his performances. He sent coffee and sandwiches to the people lining up in front of the Vienna State Opera to get a standing room ticket. He was really in touch with the people and everybody tried to get his attention.
Domingo ist the “last emperor” so to speak – of a time that may have gone by – e.g. when opera singers were celebrated stars on TV. Now there are only a hand full, that are known by more people than on slipped disc or opera fans.
And one wonders why so many theaters loose their audience. Because there are practically no legends anymore.

  • Jacqueline Sergio says:

He most definitely should not step down!

  • Brian says:

If he does continue to sing, I wonder if the Met will have extra security minding him, making sure things stay on the up-and-up backstage. A sexual assault or harassment wouldn’t exactly look good given that the company’s track record with Levine.

    • Mariclar says:

The man is 78 years old. In his prime he had women lining up to offer themselves to him. If someone he had his eye on said “no, thank you,” he simply shrugged and moved on to the next one.

Why are so many morons willing to believe the 30-year-old fantasies of women who probably are among those he wasn’t interested in, and now, after all these years have found a way to make him pay for his disinterest in them?

    • Mick the Knife says:

There are no accusations of sexual assault or anything close to it. Why make things up?

  • Bario says:

If he is innocent,we may all look silly.

  • Sergio says:

    Take care with him.

  • Roxi says:

He is a living legend! Let him sing!

  • dirk moolman says:

Domingo doesn’t need the crazy Americans, stay in cultured Europe
